Places of Interest

Beaches
Many of the deserted golden sand beaches are worth visiting, the beach at Farr Bay beyond Bettyhill being particularly attractive. Torrisdale Bay beach is only ten minutes walk from the Old Manse. Coldbackie Beach is a few miles to the West and is part of the beautiful Kyle of Tongue.

Hill Walking
Ben Loyal (764 metres), Ben Hope (927 metres) and Ben Stumanadh (527 metres) are close at hand. For the less energetic there is a picnic area and forest walk in the nearby Borgie Forest.

Sight Seeing
A drive along Lochs Hope and Eriboll are recommended , as is day trip to Scourie on the West Coast and Smoo Cave near Durness in the North West and, of course, The Castle of May and John O'Groats on the North East Corner. A frequent ferry service to Orkney leaves Scrabster near Thurso and takes 1 3/4 hours.
